Five Reasons I Include a Keepsake Video with my Kincardine Family Photo Sessions

Hopefully it is clear by browsing my website that I include a keepsake video with my Kincardine family photos sessions. I include it for newborns too. I love photos but I also really love video. My family didn’t have a camcorder growing up so it wasn’t until my boys were born and I bought the new Nikon D750 that I was able to record my own family. From the second I could rewatch special moments of my little family I was hooked and knew I needed to include it in my sessions somehow.

Here are five reasons I love to include video clips in my photo sessions:

Kincardine Family photo sessions with me are so much more than what you see in the photos

When I come to your home, I am spending real time with your family. Yes, I am taking photos and directing you here and there but I am also interacting with you and your children in real ways during these moments. I am witnessing the in-between moments. I am talking to your children and getting amazing reactions from the questions I ask and the questions you ask. All the things I see in the time I am with you are worth documenting in both photo and video.

I can capture your children’s voices, subtle movements, and the special connections within your family

Yes, I will definitely capture beautiful family moments in photos. Those are so special and wonderful because you can print them and put them up on your walls. There are some things though, that only video can preserve. The voices of your children singing and calling you Mommy or Daddy, the lullaby you sing to your baby every night, the repetitive way your children spin and jump and the way they squeeze your neck over and over as they hug you tight. All these details involve movement.

Video enhances your ability to remember what life was really like

I will forever be recording parents rocking their babies and children in their arms. As a parent, when you close your eyes, you can return to that feeling but when you see a 15 second clip of yourself with the weight of your child on your hip, your body remembers. Also, your children will not likely remember much of the details at all. They need to remember you in movement. They need to see the way you nuzzled their necks, held them upside down by their feet, ran your fingers through their hair. This is as much for them as it is for you.

Photos and video together tell a complete story

Whatever season of life you are in has a distinct feel. Life with a newborn is different than a toddler is different than a teenager or an adult. I am a nostalgic person at heart and want these seasons captured with as much detail as possible. I want you to watch these keepsake videos in 5 or 10 years and say, YES, that is what it was like then. I want you to show them to your kids and say, YES, that is what you were like then, do you remember?

You Will Not Live Forever

I hate to break it to you but it’s true. My mom died when I was 30, before I met my partner or had my two kids. My grandma died 6 months later, and my grandfather was moved into a nursing facility a week after that with severe dementia. As bad as all of that was what hurt my heart the most was my kids not getting to know any of these important people. They would not get to see them smile or laugh or move. Last year, I came into possession of some old Super 8 films that my grandfather had taken of my mom from the time she was a child to the time she got married. I can’t begin to tell you what it felt like seeing her come alive on the monitor of my computer. To show my kids their grandmother. It was priceless.

These photos and keepsake video are as much for your children when they grow up as they are for you now. That is the most important reason why I include a keepsake video with my Kincardine family photo sessions.

If you are looking for a Kincardine family photographer, I would love to help your family remember this season of your lives. Contact me if you are ready to book or have any questions.
